My poor husband was thrown off, on his birthday! They seemed to be nicer to the others and not us, yelling, maybe if the photographer was not focused on flirting, we would have gotten better pictures, it was to the point where he didnt want to talk to us and only charged $10 for all to get out of his hair so he could continue his "romance" vibes. We were told to "SHUT UP" and let them try it themselves, for the record, 5 of the 6 other passengers got in the water. although the waters were not up to our expectations, we were the first off the boat, told to hurry and when other passengers on the boat asked how was the water how was the bottom, my husband and i both responded positively saying it was great and they should try it. Where I will place blame on our negative experience was it was the day of my husbands birthday and I thought this would be something nice and cool to do. First off, because of the rain, the waters were not glowing like you see in other photos, that is no ones fault which I will not place blame.

You get a free small rum punch or fruit punch and then hop on a boat for a few minutes into the middle of the lake, where you can swim around and marvel at the electric blue dinoflagellates which make you feel like you're in the movie Avatar. Admission to the Lagoon is $25pp which is pricey but this is a unique experience that I think is worth paying for. I ended up doing a combined Rosehall Great House / Luminous Lagoon private driver tour w/ Jamaica Get Away Travels for $50pp x 3 ppl w/ pickup at our hotel in Montego Bay. I guess they offer $25 pickup but you have to have a minimum number of people. Transportation here is the most confusing/expensive part of the experience. Just be advised before you book this excursion that it's not all it seems. We were told there was $30 charge for the pictures if we wanted them which felt like a scam after having already paid for the frankly overpriced tickets. There was a photographer taking pictures of everyone swimming and told us he could air drop the pictures once we got back. After we were done (about 30mins) we went back to shore. It can be very off putting for people at first so beware. However, the floor feels slimy like stepping in mud mixed with slime.

The water is only about 4ft deep so most people can just stand up. You actually have to get in the water and swim in order to see the glow. We went out onto the water and were given a brief explanation of what to expect. Once we got to the place we had to wait another 20mins for the boat to be "ready". Our tour was nearly 30mins late and there was no sense of urgency to make up for lost time. My GF and I were excited to go to this place because the pictures were very convincing but they don't really do it justice. I would say skip this excursion unless you are really a science nerd like we are. We had a crowd of 9 so we wanted several pictures so he finally let us get all of them( about 8 pictures for $100). You can get one picture with you in it for $25. The purchasing of pictures was a little crazy. You really wont get the effect on your camera phone. I didn't realize they were taking pictures so did not get a picture while I was in the water but after I got our I did see a guy asking people to look his way to take pictures. We stayed in the water for about 15 minutes or so. Stayed afloat and did not touch the bottom. I am not a great swimmer but asked for a life vest and I was fine.

The boat kicked up water at the motor area and you could see the glow which was cool. The Captain kinda convinced them to stay. Several people were confused and wanted to leave because they were under the impression they could walk on the bottom since they could not swim well and may touch the bottom. You are not to touch the bottom of the lagoon or it would disrupt the glow effect. We boarded a boat with about 20-30 people (the boat was full) and Captain proceed to tell us if we could not swim then don't get in the water. We took a private shuttle to the location and they had a bar area you could get drinks.
